T9 software combines the groups of letters found on each phone key with a fast-access dictionary of words, and recognizes what you want to text as you type. T9 offers the most commonly-used word for every key sequence you enter by default and then lets you access other choices with one or more presses of the NEXT key.

Here’s a quick example so you can see for yourself just how fun and easy T9 is to use. With your phone set to T9 mode, you can enter the word “how” with only three key presses: 4-6-9. (versus six presses with multi-tap) and there’s no need to pause between taps. Simply press a key once for each letter you want—just as you would on a computer keyboard—and watch as T9 displays what you want to say. T9 knows that “how” is the most likely word that matches the key sequence 4-6-9, and that’s the word it shows.

If the displayed word is not the word you want, you just press the NEXT key to view other matches and choose the word you’re looking for.

Want T9 to learn your words –even if they’re not “NORMAL”?
Though your mobile phone’s T9 dictionary comes with thousands of words, your way of communicating is all your own. T9 combines what it already knows about language with what it learns about you. Many of the words and expressions that you use are unique, and T9 might not recognize them at first. All you need to do is let T9 get to know you, and your text will have a flavor and style that is all you. If T9 doesn’t recognize the word you’re trying to enter, switch to multi-tap, enter the word, and T9 will know it next time. T9 also pays attention to the words you use most often and will learn to display those first.

• Take it easy. You only need one key tap per letter.
• Don’t worry. Ignore the word displayed on your screen until you are done entering text. Since T9 tries to find matching words as you type, the word you are entering may change as you press each key.
• Check out your options. If T9 displays a word that is not the one you’re looking for, press the NEXT key to scroll through the possible matches.
• Spread the word. If you can’t find the word you want in T9’s dictionary, add it. Enter the word into multi-tap and then switch back to T9 so that T9 will know the word the next time you want to use it.
